2025年10月3日、筑波大学は Tsukuba Conference 2025 の一環として、インタラクティブ・セッション「Co-creation of Knowledge in Ocean Literacy（オーシャン・リテラシーにおける知の共創）」を開催しました。
本セッションは、科学・技術・社会の交差点における課題を議論する「未来を創る人々（Future Shapers）」の国際的なフォーラムの一部として企画され、**国連「持続可能な開発のための海洋の10年（UN Ocean Decade）」**の公式承認を受けています。
本ワークショップは、筑波大学人文社会系のマダニ・ジア（Zia Madani）助教と、ノルウェー北極大学（UiT The Arctic University of Norway）のマルゲリータ・パオラ・ポト（Margherita Paola Poto）教授を中心に、各国の若手研究者や学生によって共同で企画・運営されました。
セッションでは、海洋リテラシーと環境正義に関する学際的アプローチを探求し、日本の伝統的理念である「神（かみ：精霊的本質）」「里山（人と自然の調和）」「和（平和と調和）」を取り入れ、「海を親族（kin）として扱う法的・倫理的視点」を提示しました。
プログラムでは、ジャッジ・ホエール（鯨の裁判官）、プラスチック袋のプリック、筑波山様などを登場人物とする創作パペット劇を通じて、参加者が「海の法廷（Court of the Ocean）」の一員として、海を守るための法や判断を共に創造する体験を行いました。
開会にあたり、永田恭介学長が挨拶を行い、筑波大学が目指す「創造的・共創的・学際的な知の融合による地球規模課題の解決」への強い意志を示しました。
本ワークショップは、Ocean Incubator Network（OIN） の一環として、国連海洋の10年コミットメント「Ocean for All: Reimagining Justice with Love and Law」の成果物でもあり、筑波大学とノルウェー北極大学の連携をさらに深める重要な一歩となりました。
Co-creation of Knowledge in Ocean Literacy: An International Forum for Future Shapers at Tsukuba Conference 2025
On 3 October 2025, the University of Tsukuba hosted the interactive session “Co-creation of Knowledge in Ocean Literacy” as part of the Tsukuba Conference 2025, an international forum that brings together emerging researchers and “future shapers” to discuss issues on science, technology, and society. Endorsed by the UN Ocean Decade, this session was co-organized by Zia Madani (University of Tsukuba) and Margherita Paola Poto (UiT The Arctic University of Norway), in collaboration with an international team of early-career researchers and students.
The workshop explored transdisciplinary approaches to ocean literacy and environmental justice, integrating Japanese cultural principles of kami (spiritual essence), satoyama (human–nature harmony), and wa (peace and balance) into legal and ethical frameworks that view the Ocean as kin. Through a creative puppet and shadow theatre performance—featuring characters such as Judge Whale, Plastic Bag (Plik), and Mount Tsukuba—participants were invited to engage as members of a “Court of the Ocean,” deliberating on ways to protect the ocean as a living entity rather than a resource.
The session combined art, law, and science in a unique participatory format, encouraging students and young professionals to co-create environmental “judgments” and explore the moral and legal dimensions of ocean sustainability. President Kyosuke Nagata delivered opening remarks, highlighting the University’s commitment to fostering co-creative and interdisciplinary approaches to global challenges.
This workshop forms part of the Ocean Incubator Network (OIN) and contributes to the UN Ocean Decade Commitment “Ocean for All: Reimagining Justice with Love and Law.” It also marks a milestone in the ongoing collaboration between the University of Tsukuba and UiT The Arctic University of Norway, advancing shared goals of education, sustainability, and global engagement.
