IAA Dissertation Prizeは、楔形文字学（アッシリア学）およびメソポタミア考古学の分野において、特に優れた博士論文に対して毎年授与される国際的に権威ある賞であり、当該分野の若手研究者にとって最高峰の栄誉の一つとされています。
コウブコバ助教は、2025年5月にイェール大学において博士号を取得し、同年9月1日付で筑波大学に着任しました。受賞対象となった博士論文の題目は"How Rituals Shape Authority: The Mesopotamian Exorcist's Self-Presentation in Ritual Texts and Practice"です。本研究は、古代メソポタミアにおける祓魔師（āšipu）の自己表象と権威形成のあり方を、儀礼文書と実践の双方から精緻に分析した点が高く評価されました。とりわけ審査委員会は、同助教が祓魔師（āšipu）研究に対して新たな解釈的視座を提示している点を全会一致で高く評価しており、本研究はアッシリア学のみならず関連する諸分野においても重要な意義を持つ成果として位置づけられています。
本受賞は、同助教の卓越した研究能力と将来性が国際的に認められたことを示すものです。また、本学および本センターの研究活動の国際的プレゼンスを一層高める成果でもあります。
Dr. Evelyne Koubková, Assistant Professor at the Research Center for West Asian Civilizations, has been awarded the International Association for Assyriology (IAA) Dissertation Prize.
The IAA Dissertation Prize is awarded annually to an outstanding doctoral dissertation in the fields of cuneiform studies (Assyriology) and Mesopotamian archaeology. It is widely regarded as one of the most prestigious distinctions for early-career scholars in these disciplines.
Dr. Koubková received her PhD from Yale University in May 2025 and joined the University of Tsukuba on September 1, 2025. Her award-winning dissertation is entitled "How Rituals Shape Authority:
The Mesopotamian Exorcist's Self-Presentation in Ritual Texts and Practice". The study has been highly praised for its original and rigorous analysis of how the ancient Mesopotamian exorcists' (āšipu) self-presentation in their texts and ritual practice shaped their professional authority. The prize committee was unanimously impressed by the ways in which Dr. Koubková adopts a new interpretative lens on the āšipu, making her work of great significance not only for Assyriology but also for other related fields.
This award highlights Dr. Koubková's outstanding scholarly achievements and international recognition, and it further enhances the global research profile of both the Center and the University.
