宮川創准教授が第30回国立国語研究所所長賞（特別所長賞）を受賞
2025年6月、筑波大学人文社会系・西アジア文明研究センターの宮川創准教授が、第30回国立国語研究所所長賞（特別所長賞）を受賞しました。
宮川准教授は、古代エジプト語から現代の消滅危機言語に至るまで、多様な言語資料のデジタル化とAIを活用した分析を行う歴史言語学者です。修道院長シェヌーテのコプト語写本における聖書引用の特徴をAIによる文体解析で明らかにするなど、古代言語研究と最新技術を融合させた研究を展開しています。
さらに、ヌビア諸語・琉球諸語・アイヌ語・台湾タロコ語などアジア・アフリカの消滅危機言語を対象に、デジタル・コーパス構築や機械翻訳モデルの開発を進め、言語保存の新たな可能性を切り拓いてきました。サンスクリット語に関しては、ヴェーダ文献の統計解析による時代・地域推定を行い、古代インド言語史研究にも寄与しています。
また、国立国語研究所のデジタルアーカイブ「NINDA」の開発を主導し、TEI、IIIF、LODなどの国際標準規格を導入しました。これにより、日本語や琉球諸語、消滅危機言語の資料を国際的に共有可能な形で整備し、人文学研究における国際的基盤構築に貢献しています。
こうした研究成果は、人類の言語文化遺産を未来に継承するための礎を築くものであり、国内外の研究者にとって重要なリソースとなっています。特に、文部科学省科学技術・学術政策研究所「科学技術への顕著な貢献2024（ナイスステップな研究者）」に選定されたことを契機として、学会や分野を超えたレベルでの評価を受け、このたび特別所長賞の授賞に至りました。
Associate Professor So Miyagawa receives the 30th Director-General’s Special Award of the National Institute for Japanese Language and Linguistics
In June 2025, Associate Professor So Miyagawa (Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences and Research Center for West Asian Civilization, University of Tsukuba) received the 30th Director-General’s Special Award from the National Institute for Japanese Language and Linguistics.
Professor Miyagawa is a historical linguist whose research combines Egyptology with endangered languages in Asia and Africa, applying cutting-edge digital humanities and AI technologies. His achievements include digital corpus construction and AI-based stylistic analysis of Coptic manuscripts, as well as innovative projects on endangered languages such as Old Nubian, Ryukyuan, Ainu, and Truku (Taroko). He also conducts computational analyses of Sanskrit Vedic texts, contributing to the understanding of ancient Indian linguistic history.
Moreover, he has led the development of NINDA, the digital archive of NINJAL, introducing international standards such as TEI, IIIF, and LOD. This platform enables the preservation and global sharing of Japanese, Ryukyuan, and endangered language resources, strengthening the international foundation of digital humanities.
His selection as a “Nice Step Researcher 2024” by the National Institute of Science and Technology Policy (NISTEP) of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) served as a major milestone leading to this Special Award.
